Does return of your periods mean poor supply?

I'm currently weaning my 7 month old and he's now taking 3 meals a day but I know milk is supposed to be his main source of food until 1. He currently takes about 5 breastfeeds in 24 hrs, as long as he wants to feed for each time.

However this morning I have been greeted by my period Sad. Does this mean that my DS is not taking as much as he should be? How do I fix it if it does?

My periods started within a month of giving birth and DD still survived a year of breast milk, so I'm sure you're ok.

Mine returned as soon as I started weaning. Totally normal I think.

Good grief, I do hope not! Mine returned before weaning, and I just bashed on.

Nope! DD is 6 wks. My period returned a few days ago but my supply is good (still waking up wet through despite pads).DS1 and DD1 both bf till 1 yr and my period returned at about 9 months an 11 months. Periods are a pain but don't worry about your supply as long as baby is feeding and gaining weight.

Thanks, I've been a bit worried about getting the food / milk balance right and this is the only time I've wished I could measure his intake, then when my period arrived it made me wonder if the balance had tipped too far towards food. Thanks all.

My period came on about 8 weeks after birth & I'm still producing lots of milk! My lo is now 5 months x

On the other side of the scale my periods didn't return til a year after I stopped bf, so don't think it bears any correlation

JaneB1rkin · 16/03/2012 06:49

I don't think so pet.

Mine didn't come back for 28 months and I still breastfed till, erm, (okay gets out calculator) 54 months Blush sorry to put it in months but it seems to make more sense!

and he was having a LOT of feeds after they came back, not just night/morning.

I wished mine were back sooner as I would have liked another closer together. I think sometimes they just turn up when you start the weaning process. Don't worry.

As others have said, no it doesn't. I had a period at 9 weeks post natal with all 3 of my DC, one FF and two BF, and if anything I had oversupply problems with both DD and DS2. I was gutted as I thought I would get at least another year period free with exclusive BF Angry

It sounds like you are doing everything just right, though if you wanted, you could let him take the lead more with food. I'm assuming you are feeding him purees? Giving him finger foods will let him decide how much is enough, and may get you a better balance?
