8 month old advice on night feeding

Hi

Desperate for some advice on dd night feeding. She is 8 months old and has never slept through. She was ebf until 6 months old when I returned to work. She is in an excellent pattern in the day having 3 meals with 4oz of formula every 4 hours and 4oz of formula between these meals (so 24oz in the day.

It's the nights that are concerning me. She has an 8oz bottle before bed at 6pm and last night she woke at 8, 930, 1230 & 430 to feed. I have tried offering water, tried leaving her to settle on her own, tried just calming her for the past 2 months but she will only settle if fed. This means that, last night she took 28oz of formula through the night.

She seems hungry, like she isn't doing it out of habit but I'm at breaking point now as I'm working a 50 hour week too.

I'd be grateful for any tips or advice

Thanks

Snow do you think she is missing the closeness of you? With that in mind, have you tried co-sleeping?

Is the 28oz in addition to the 24 oz in the day? This does seem an awful lot.

How much is she eating during the day? She may need more food and less milk.

Hi thanks for replying.

I weaned her off the breast gradually so I dont think its a closeness issue.

In the day she has 3 full meals....one of them with a dessert and biscuits or fruit as well. Yesterday she ate really well but still took all that milk overnight.

Its like more than a litre of fluids in 24 hours.

She is on,y on the 50th centile too.

Not sure if this is relevant but she is never ever ever still, not ever, unless asleep.

Gradual reduction of bfing unfortunately has little to do with sleep. She could just like being with you snow.

How is her weight gain?

snowchick1977 · 08/03/2012 15:41

Weight gain is fine, stable, they said no issues, no up and downs or anything.

The health visitor said she may just be a hungry baby! Great!

Maybe just make up some porridge to have before the last feed. This may see her through a bit longer. Also try giving it at 6.30 instead of 6. Not big changes but they may make a difference.

snow don't know if you've read 31 Ways to get your baby to sleep and stay asleep but there is some fairly good advice in the list.
