I am ebfing my four month old and am yet to have a period since the birth and am also on the mini pill, but am rubbish at remembering to take it. I am sooo scared of falling pregnant again already. Am I worrying needlessly?

I know 2 people who have fallen pregnant while breastfeeding and without having had their periods return. I also know several people who haven't. I have been breastfeeding for 14 months and still no periods. Not using contraception but not having sex very often either. I am still scared every time we do though. Better safe than sorry I say.

Good info from kellymom on breastfeeding and fertility. If you have no periods, excl breastfeeding frequently day and night, baby under 6m, then risk is small.

But if pregnancy would be a disaster, I would definitely look at contraception. Combined pills are not recommended when BF but most other methods are ok. It is difficult to enjoy it when you are worried about getting pregnant, not to mention actually finding the time and the energy in the first place Grin

If you really don't want to get PG then looking for another form of controception is probably a good idea. Something like a coil or the injections then you don't have to remeber to take it.

If the mini pill doesn't suit your lifestyle then find another form of contraception that does, don't leave it to chance. There are plenty of choices. What about the implant or injection?

I was exclusively bf and using condoms. Had 3 dcs didn't need anymore but fell pg when dd3 was 5mths old ! After dc4 I got the coil which is much more reassuring as I too was terrified of getting pg again.
