About 3 days ago my baby "bit" the end of my nipple (first time)

the previouse couple of days she nipped a few times during the day

today she has done it at least twice at every feed Sad
at the last feed she must have done it 3 - 4 times on each side

I try not to react but it HURTS, and i cant help flinching / going ouch etc etc

Is this just a phase? Will it stop soon? (please say it will)

She does it when she hasnt even nearly finished and still wants more milk, and I dont feel like i can not let her have any-more milk once she has bitten me

Could be teething?

For biting I'd gently press baby to breast so they opened mouth to breathe. I'd not refuse them milk either

My babies went through a phase of biting. They're 16 months old now (and have a fair few teeth!) and rarely do it.

I responded by saying ouch or yelping and removing from the breast (finger in corner of mouth). All while looking a bit stern! After 20 seconds or so I'd restart the feed.

They didn't bite for long and rarely bite now (but still do sometimes). I really thought I'd stop breastfeeding when they grew teeth, but it was less of an issue than I thought it'd be and they learnt pretty quickly that biting means an upset mummy and a pause in the feed.

will try that Happy, and hope this phase passes quickly...

I dont think she's teething but of course at 5m, she could be...

Nanny - I wouldn't make a noise/fuss as can frighten baby or actual get them to do it for the noise. Look at kellymom.com or Penelope leach birth to 5.

I try very hard not to react, but when she suddenly without warning clamps down on my nipple it is very hard almost impossible!!!!!

I know nanny, ds2 would do it at end of fees as falling asleep and catch me unawares and yup I screeched a few times. Just advice I had and seemed to work when he was a baby and it was the testing/teething stage. Smile
