Am I overfeeding my baby?

Hi all this is the first post I have put up so please be gentle! :). I hope that someone has some good advice or reassurance on this topic. I have 16 day old twins and intitially for the first week was worried they were not taking enough milk (formula fed) as in the hospital they were constantly having their blood sugars monitored and just last week struggled to take 2 1/2 oz. So Im quite surprised to be worrying now about this. They now have between 2 1/2-4 oz every 3-4 hours but it tends to be more like 3 1/2 and twin 2 (Jamie) drains 4 regularly. They were 5lb 15 and 5lb 9 born and when they were weighed at 13 days they had gained 4 and 3 oz. Is that good? It's since then that theyre feeds have increased I know they have growth spurts could this just be it? I worry they are being overfed as tho they want bottle, are burped throughout (tho struggle with bringing up wind) Jamie has been sick just a couple of times after (not every time- and sometimes think its been down to being pulled around a bit after) but I am certainly not forcing it down. They stop refuse bottle. I tried stopping Jamie at 3 oz but he cries for more if not straight away not long after. He settles on 4oz tho and Im too scared to make up more. So if he is sick sometimes is he overfeeding? and should I/how would I stop him? I dont think its right to not feed baby if showing signs of hunger. Does 4 oz seem a lot for their weights? or should I go on age? Im so confused over the whole feeding thing!

Babies tend to be pretty clear when they're full and poke the bottle out with their tongue or close their mouth tightly so if they are merrily drinking and you're not jamming it in their mouths and trying to force them (which you clearly aren't) then I'd say they're fine.

A MW told me a baby should put on 4-5 oz a week - I'm not sure if that applies to twins too (no experience of twins).

I really doubt they're overfed but if you're worried get them weighed and talk to your HV. Some babies are just hungrier/like more feeds.

I once heard you can't overfeed until they're on solids as they self regulate well.

Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply to be honest I thought exactly the same just needed the reassurance so will carry on and see what happens when HV comes this week as she was off last week they were weighed by midwife. I suppose it was the being sick thing that concerned me a little as felt he obviously couldnt handle what he seems to want, though I did mention it to two midwives and they were not concerned at all (babies are sick :) ). Thanks again.

No probs, ask them about reflux if he seems in pain when feeding/being sick.

Some babies are just sicky though. My friend's is like a fountain and she's fine.
