Feeling Quite Proud of Myself Today Thank You Very Much!

Well, today DS is 17 weeks old and we've made it this far on boob milk alone! Now we've reached the minimum age for weaning, I'll feel a bit better if we have to end up giving him a bottle of formula every other day. (A bit arbitrary with the 17 weeks, I know, but it makes me feel better. Not GOING to wean but I'll feel ok knowing it's considered ok for foodstuffs other than bm to be given).

This is such a major achievement for me as I've been exclusively expressing after a long losing battle with tongue tie and boob refusal. I thought it was all over a month ago when expressing every 3 hours was all too much but having dropped to 4 pumping sessions a day, I'm still producing 800 ml a day. DS eats more than this so we've been using the freezer stash to make up the difference.

Freezer stash is down to 4 bags now so we will need to call on the formula in one or two weeks but I'm just so pleased to have got this far.

So thank you everyone who has offered help and support and major congratulations to my (deceptively small) super boobs! Special thanks to TruthSweet who was there at the time of crisis of always willing to offer a friendly PM.

You mean BerryBaby isn't wearing white polyester slacks? You shock me Wink

NicolaSeal · 14/02/2012 17:53

Congratulations and well done! I'm also at 17 weeks and exclusively pumping. It's really tough, but worth it. I'm looking forward to the days when I can drop a few pumps! xx

MixedBerries · 14/02/2012 17:57

Hi Nicola! Not many of us! Well done to you too.
I think I'll hold a ceremonial burning of the pump when we're done!

Well done Smile

I'm not much of a poster but I couldn't read and run. Congratulations making it this far, bfing is hard enough but to stick with it despite extra challenges is impressive. Enjoy those little "i did that" moments when you get time to Grin.

Massive respect. I had to pump for 2 months during NICU stay and I grew to loathe it, and never produced enough, so well done you, that's phenomenal.

debka · 15/02/2012 06:30

WELL DONE!!! Thanks

Teladi · 15/02/2012 06:40

Congrats! I understand exactly how you feel. My DD is 22 weeks and I made it to 18 exclusively expressing. I started giving her formula then and I started now exclusively FF last week, I was sad at first but I am OK about it now. That's great you're getting 800ml still. I was having to keep going at least 6 times a day to keep supply to about 900ml as when I dropped to 4 my supply dropped dramatically, so much in fact that it didn't seem worth the effort... DD reserved all her extra special crazy baby behaviour for when the pump was running too, I was still pumping in the night.... and it was all getting a bit much. I would have loved to keep my supply going so I'm so pleased for you that you have found a happy medium. You should feel really really proud for putting in all the effort - not many would! And I hope you keep going as long as is right for you both. You've done a fantastic job. Thanks

Teladi · 15/02/2012 06:41

Actually she is 24 weeks!!

MixedBerries · 15/02/2012 11:52

Good going Teladi! I know what you mean about the night pumping- it's an absolute killer (and in no small part a huge contributor to PND if you ask me). Huge well done to you too!

You go Girl! Good feeding!
I did 3 weeks of tongue tied baby, and it was, well, you know what its like!
If it hadn't been cut, I wouldn't have been able to keep it up, your an amazing woman, and BabyBerries is a very lucky little boy to have a mummy so prepared to put herself out for him.
