Milk Blister - advice please if you've had one

Hi,

I had a milk blister come up on Thursday, about 1-2 mm in diameter, diagnosed it with Dr. Google on Friday but only managed to scrape the courage together to lance it yesterday morning after warm compresses as per Kellymom. Lanced it with a sterile injection needle. It has been incredibly painful since Thursday, I'm not sure lancing it has made much of a difference.

The white stuff, which I assume is milk, has gone for the most part, but now it just looks like a wart on my nipple (sorry Blush). It is soooooooooo sore and latching and feeding on that side is agony.

Can anyone tell my how long this should last for? and at what point should I seek further help? DS is almost 19 weeks and EBF, we have been doing so well, he is truly a little milk monster and I don't understand this at all!

Thanks if you've made it this far!

I had one and I didn't lance it but used olive oil to keep it soft and it went by itself after about 2 weeks I think. And I tried to feed from that side as normal even though it was rather sore. I went to my local and very amazing breast feeding group for advice from the lactation consultant.

Could there be a solid blockage? I get solid white lumps - a needle would have pushed it in if so. I kind of have to squeeze mine like a spot until the lump comes out - one was the same size ans shape as a grain of uncooked rice! Shock

2 weeks!

I don't think there is a solid blockage, I sometimes get blockages that seem kind of thready, like a longish wormy thinghy, but it has never given me any problems before. Everything behind the nipple feels quite soft.

I'm trying to feed as normal from that side, but goodness it's sore!

Thank you for replying, think I'll give it 'till Tuesday. If it's not better by then, I'll find a bf counsellor.
