worried about supply in left boob only...

Left boob this week seems to have a lot less milk than the right so think I'm stuck in catch22 feeding mostly off the right because it's fuller. Expressed the right a couple of times this week which may be why.

What can I do to balance out supply (and up supply generally, this week feel as though I"m struggling to produce enough, purely only based on breast size!)...DD is 11weeks

You can quite easily feed off one side only so having two sides that produce milk (even if one doesn't seem to produce as much) is a bonus. Feeding on each side alternatively (say start one feed on the right and finish on left, next feed start on the left and so on) will help keep production up on both sides.

Every one has a slightly better producing side just the same as everyone has one foot that is wider/longer than the other - the difference may be slight or it may be very noticeable but anyway it's normal!

Plus breast size doesn't really relate to milk production in the way a lot of people think (i.e. they may think an A cup makes less milk than a DD cup) as often a larger breast has a similar amount of milk making tissue (or if may have less!) to a smaller breast but the larger one has much more fatty tissue giving it a larger size.

I have the same problem and can especially relate to the catch 22 thing. However i have noticed that sometimes when I think left boob is "empty" DS will pop off and I will see a big squirt of milk, so some of it is paranoia on my part. I have a duel pump though and can see when i express that right boob produces exactly double what the left does, as well as them just "feeling" unbalanced. I did try for a while ALWAYS feeding off left (weaker producer) first and felt that that did even things out a bit, however whenever we were out and about and/or he was starving i would quickly cave and start with (or switch to) the right because it seem to satisfy him quicker (or is that my imagination?) so I have never been able to do it long enough to really "even things out"

At the end of the day though, as the poster above said, it doesnt really matter which side the milk comes from, as long as there is enough overall, although it would be nice to have two boobs the same cups size!

My right boob always seemed to have more milk but I just kept on using them both in rotation. I ebf for 16 months and my dd doesn't seem to have suffered any adverse effects Grin I wouldn't worry if I were you!

Thanks all! Will stop with the paranoia, DD is fat and chubby so clearly getting everything she needs, no matter where its from!
