V painful sore throat - what can I take while BFing?

I am posting this in health and BFing asI wasn't sure where best to put it.

I spent yesterday feeling incredibly rough, with a dreadful sore throat. Today, I feel a bit better in myself but my throat is still incredibly painful - if not more so. I have only taken paracetamol and ibuprofen, and gargled with Oraldene, so far. Every lozenge and drink says you can't take while BFing, but there must be something I can take. I am in agony!

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks.

Look at the Cough and Cold PDF on here. Basically, all the lozenges are fine, as are many of the drinks.

Antihistamines aren't a great idea (can reduce supply and/or make the baby sleepy), and aspirin is absolutely out. Codeine is best avoided.

Although, really, I've not found many things that actually help with a sore throat. (I hate them!) Gargling with salt water can help and is of course totally safe.

Thank you. That's great.

you could try gargling with dissolvable paracetamol - this was recommended after I had my tonsils out. Tastes horrible but I found it more effective than just taking paracetamol normally.

Also there's a spray called difflam which you can buy over the counter which is amazing, not sure if you can use it when breastfeeding but it's only a local anaesthetic so I can't imagine it would cause any problems.

gargle with tcp.

or a lozenge called Merocaine - i use this for my tonsils, cos it has anaesthetic in.
it does not say anything about BFing on the instructions (am suffering now so have bought a pack)
