Breastfeeding & Chloramphenicol Antibiotic Eye Ointment - Panicking :-(

Was prescribed the above this morning. Advised that I was breastfeeding. Dr gave the usual 'it's not recommended in breastfeeding but it's a precaution thing '

I normally avoid drugs whenever possible but because this was for my eyes I decided to go ahead and agree to have the cream.

Since getting home I have read that Chloramphenicol should be avoided because of links to serious conditions not just grizzling/upset tummies.

I'm so upset.

Does anyone have any info on how long antibiotics stay in your milk?

xx

Absolutely don't panic chloramphenicol eye drops safe when breast feeding, they can be used in babies, the side affects are very rare and are likely to be only a problem when the drug is given into a vein, I'm a GP and have breast fed all my kids and would have used it myself if I had an eye infection when I was feeding them
