Bfing beyond 12 months and cows' milk

My DD will be one in a couple of days time and I am happy to continue breastfeeding her, but I would also like to introduce her to drinking cows' milk. She currently has a feed in the morning, one/two during the day and one just before bed (plus one or two in the night still Blush). She has cows' milk on cereal etc.

I'm interested to know what other extended bfers do - how much cows' milk does your child drink/when do you give it to them?

I only gave DD1 & DD2 cow's milk due to supply drops in pg but DD3 has had cows' milk mainly because her sisters do and my mum seems incapable of having her for an hour with out pouring the contents of a 4-pinter down her throat!

DD2 (4y) has a cup of milk (prob 200ml) in the afternoon and a bf at night (very short now).

DD3 (2.3y) has a very small cup/beaker of cow's milk (approx 100ml or less) if she asks for it during the day perhaps two if she is in the mood, she is bf on demand and has a bf on waking, one or two during the day, one before bed (sometimes a quick one or two in the evening if her eczema is playing up) and perhaps one in the night though she mainly sleeps through.

Hmmm - IIRC DD started with cows milk on cereal at 1year and then I offered her cups of milk too

She wasn't very keen but now she has a cup of milk or more per day

She is 2.4 years now and still feeding like a trouper!

Thanks TruthSweet. I'm off to bed now, but I'll be interested in what others do.

Ds is 15 months. He has cow's milk on cereals and has cheese and yoghurt. I can't bring myselfto give him drinks of cow's milk (why should I when he can have human milk). Hehas cow's milk to drink at nursery.

Watching with interest as DS is now 9 months and we're hoping to cut down BF over the next 9 months and stop sometime around then.

With DD I started giving her a cup of cows milk in the morning around a year, as wanted her to be happy to take it if I wasn't there. She still BF loads and didn't stop untill almost 3years, at which point she was still having a beacker of milk in the morning. But now at 4 she doesn't have any unless she asks for it.

With DS whos' 15months I've tried him a couple of time's but now just think it's a bit weiared to give cows milk so haven't really presavered. I'm planning on letting him self wean and I don't see the need to replace BM with cows milk, plus the time's he has had it he's just spat it out.

mine is 17mths and little monkey does not do milk out of anything other than mummies boobs so has one breast feed a day now at bedtime (at 1yr had 7am, 5pm, 7pm at 13mths had 7am and 7pm and at 15mths cut to 7pm only)

Has cows milk on breakfast about 200mls at a guess (a pint does 3-4 days breakfast) and eats plenty of yogurt and loves cheese.
