green, vinegary smelling poo and terrible wind

DS (8 weeks) has never had much of a problem with wind. Last week, however, he started to experience what looks like horribly painful trapped wind - very difficult to get out and the pain seems to persist after multiple farts and burps over several hours. In the last couple of days his poo has turned green and started smelling strongly of vinegar. There's obviously something going on, especially as it came on so suddenly, but does anyone have any idea what it could possibly be?

I had exactly the same thing with DD and posted something similar! I never got to the root of the problem in the end but it didn't last for very long! Are you bf? I put it down to my very fast let down and oversupply! Since block feeding we rarely get green poos now and the vinegary smell has gone!! Some suggest it could be too much sugar or maybe a cold can cause it!!

Oh good, how long did it take to disappear? And what's block feeding? I am bf but with a formula top-up in the evening - I think it appeared when I introduced a second one last week (concerns re: weight) but have dropped this and not sure there's much improvement...

porpentine you can google block feeding, or search for Gina's posts :)

You probably don;t have oversupply if there have been concerns about your baby's weight, and block feeding is not the way to go if you have been worried about lack of weight gain.

If the trouble began with intro'ing more formula, then it doesnt take Miss Marple to make a good guess at the culprit....
