Stopped breastfeeding around 10 weeks ago, why am I still 'leaking'?

I mix fed DD until I went back to work, only managed 3 weeks more (separation coupled with a virus meant after a week off I couldn't get her to BF any more) before having to stop BF completely. This was around 9-10 weeks ago.

I find it strange that all this time later I'm still leaking something. It's less milky now, in fact looks more like colostrum. Surely I should have 'dried up' by now? Has anyone else experience this?

Hi OP, I was still producing milk 4+yrs after DD (last DC) stopped BF and I'm very healthy (apart from a bad back), but because I wasn't in pain with it, I decided to not see my GP and just let the milk dry up on it's own accord.

If you're worried about it then you could look up and call a BF helpline to ask about it.

You're not pregnant are you? Grin

No, I think it's pretty normal TBH.

Catonkey, this sounds pretty normal. 10 weeks is not a long time - some people go on making milk for longer than this, and can produce colostrum-like fluid when they elicit it for years, even.

I am assuming this isn't especially troublesome leaking? Do ask your GP though if you are worried.

Thanks for the reassurance :) no its not anything troublesome, just thought it a little strange, clearly I am not abnormal! I just assumed it would 'dry' out as it were, didn't expect this. Plus I miss BF so much I guess it makes me a little sad when I see it :(

I wouldn't worry - some people take longer than others. As long as you're definately not pg again?

No, definitely not pregnant! Had the implant fitted around 4 months ago and had to take a couple of tests before they'd fit it :)
