Paranoid - 29 weeks pregnant and leaking colostrum but only on one side....

I have started waking up (29 weeks pregnant) to find I have leaked a bit from my right nipple overnight but never my left. I would normally shrug this off but I used to have both nipples pierced (Blush), with a much bigger gauge bar in the left (really quite big). I took them out about ten years ago, and have spent this pregnancy paranoid I won't be able to breastfeed on one or both sides. This new development has made me extra worried that I have buggered up the left side. Can anyone offer any advice on whether this is likely, especially if I am leaking only on the right? Thanks.

Hi there and congrats on your pregnancy Grin. I'm absolutely no expert (in fact the complete opposite! DS born 10 weeks ago and still no clue?!?!) but I just wanted to reassure you. I didn't leak at all whilst preggers and was worried I didn't have milk, but now am BF fine. Fingers crossed it's the same for you xxx

I don't know anything about piercings I'm afraid - but it's quite normal not to leak at all, and I believe only leaking on one side is very common too. Could you talk to your midwife about your concerns?

I also had a hunt for you on Kellymom here, which links to lots of articles if you want to read up. From the quick look I had, it seems unlikely to be a problem.

ps. Even if one nipple is damaged, it's perfectly possible to feed successfully from only one side. It can be hard work to start with, you can look a bit lopsided if you are unlucky, but I've seen threads on here supporting women who've done it.

Just from my recent experience - I had both nipples pierced and took them out about 11 years ago. They were pretty badly placed and I have pretty bad scarring.
Just had a baby (15 days old) and I too only leaked colostrum from one side through pregnancy but I've had no problems with milk on either side.
You may not have damaged your nipples, so try not to worry.

I wouldn't worry. I always found one side was more enthusiastic than the other! Leaking is a pita imo - have you got a night time bra? You can get nursing ones that are very soft and help keep pads in place - godsend for me as I used to feed from one side and end up soaked on the other.

I haven't bought a bra to wear at night yet as the leaking has only started over Christmas and I haven't been anywhere, but I think I'll have to get one. Pregnancy is so glamorous Grin.
