Baby prefers one boob to the other?!

My DD is 9 weeks. The past couple of days I have noticed she doesn't seem to like feeding from my right boob. Has anyone else had this? Am slightly perplexed as surely the milk tastes the same in both..!

I've had it with DD now 5 months. It's apparently quite common. I'd deal with it though as I think it can have an impact on your supply. (I didn't and have had problems) The two things I was told to do were to always put DD on the non-favourite side first for a couple of days to even things out and/or use the rugby ball hold on that side which apparently tricks them into thinking they're on their preferred side. Good luck!

Thanks Emily glad to hear I'm not alone! Will try the rugby hold and see if that resolves the problem.

With mine the flow was different in one side from the other, and when pumping I definitely got more milk from my left side. It's odd isn't it? It is also worth making sure you are winding properly between boobs and you aren't alternating each side at each feed, as sometimes they fuss after the first lot of milk.

I have a friend whose baby refused one boob completely and it turned out there was very little milk - she'd forgotton but she'd had a cyst removed from that one and it appeared the surgery had stopped the milk in some way.

HI, I had this too - I think that the less favoured boob had slower flow - although same ability to produce volume, but DD2 just didn't want to wait. As suggested above, I did always put her on the less favoured side first, and used the rugby ball hold when she was small enough. In the end, I think she largely just went through the motions with the less favoured side and waited to get to the one she wanted but it worked ok. I did used to have a nipple piercing in the less favoured side so that probably had something to do with it - oh the things we do in youth!
I have also heard that it is quite common nipple piercings or not!
