12 week old has started clamping down hard on my nipple

My DD used to latch and feed well but suddenly over the last 24 hours she's started clamping down hard on my nipple and turning her head at the same time during a feed. She's also trying to cram her fist into her mouth at the same time. What's going on? Is there anything I can do?

Could be teething, you could try teething gel/powders to see if that helps

When, exactly, is she doing this? Early on in a feed? Late?

LovesBloominChristmas · 14/12/2011 18:37

Yep it can fucking hurt can't it Shock

Ds has started doing this and dd used to also

PinkFondantFancy · 14/12/2011 19:22

Seems to be feeds at any time of day and towards the end of the feed.

It could be that she is objecting to the slower flow towards the end of a feed (that's not to say there isn't any milk it just might be a bit slower than at the start).

You could try swapping sides when she starts doing this or trying breast compressions (would probably be easier to swap sides tbh but you might also want to try the compressions).

Yup, as TS says, this may be about the flow slowing down. If you can tell when she's about to do it, you can remove her, swap her over, or try breast compressions.

Hi pinkfondantfancy Smile Remember me from antenatal threads?? Smile My DS is 3 months now and is doing a similar thing. I wonder if it is teeth because he is dribbling loads and biting on his hands all the time. Strange though because my DD didn't get a tooth till she was 9 months. Confused

Hello getdown, I remember you! Did you go to Harlow for the birth in the end?
