Does BF make your nipples change size & colour?

Odd question and I'm not quite sure how to ask without sounding nuts... if you have small, light coloured/pink nipples does breast feeding make them swell and change colour ? I know some ladies have large dark nipples and I'm just wondering whether this is caused by bf or whether they would have been like that all along? It's not really a question you can ask someone in passing! Confused

During pregnancy mine got darker and I read that its so they are easier for the baby to find due to contrast with your skin. Not sure how this works if you have darker skin colour.

I think they did, but then went back to how they were after I stopped. Can't be 100% sure as it was 7 years ago, but I think there was some change. And then changed back.

Think mine changed when I was pg and when lo was still tiny but seem to be back to normal now. I'm bf a 5 month old baby.

Nipples/areolas (the circular skin around the nipple) darken and enlarge during pg. What colour and size they end up at does depend on genetics as opposed to if you bf or not. The darkening often fades away as time progresses.

Studies have shown that babies prefer high contrast images and round shapes over any other so you do the maths!

Nipples may become more 'sticky out' if you bf, if you previously had flat or inverted nipples but it's not a given that they will remain that way.
