went out last night - DD had a meltdown!

I had my first evening out (DD is 3.5months). She is BF on demand. Got everything prepared - expressed/defrosted 4 x 2oz bottles for snacks (she does cluster-snack in the evening) and 1 x 4oz bottle for bedtime, which DP usually gives her anyway.

I fed her before I left about 5pm. She slept 5.30 til about 6.30pm (normal routine) then woke and went uncharacteristically ballistic. Screamed and screeched all through DS aged 3yrs bedtime routine. dp gave her 3 x 2oz bottles in about an hour and a half, after which she finally stopped screaming, went to sleep and woke up about midnight when I was home and BF her. She missed her usual 9pm pre-bed big feed.

I felt terrible that the whole family had such a traumatic evening when I was out.

So - IF we should ever have the pleasure of being in this situation again, what should DP do bottle-wise? I thought a few 2oz for snacks would be plenty? should I leave a few 4oz bottles and be done with it? Or never go out again??

I would leave more personally. If baby would take a bottle! Envy

nannyl · 13/12/2011 15:47

my baby is 12 weeks old

she has been having 6oz bottles since 5 weeks old and since 9 weeks has increased to 7oz bottles and she drinks every last drop (in < 15mins)

if i only gave her 2oz she would go ballistic.... the world ends when we pause to wind after 3-4 oz!

Kellymom suggests an average daily intake of 25oz and you had left 12oz I think so around half her daily intake of milk. Given that, and the fact that she did sleep after ~6oz, could the issue perhaps have been not that she was hungry, but that she was confused because you weren't there?

Thanks everyone, and yes, RudolphsKerfuffle, I was going on the kellymom rule of thumb. DP said similar about missing me, but I thougt that unlikely. maybe that's the case, though.
and yes, nannyl and flamegirl77 - I think next time I'll leave bigger bottles just in case - didn't want to make her sick though.
