Irregular feeding in the early days and supply

Just a quick one really. DD is 4 weeks. Obviously she is not on a schedule, I feed on demand, but she has gone from pretty regular 2 hourly (from birth), to hourly, back to 2 hourly, to cluster feeding, to 4 hourly all in 2 days! My boobs are huge and leaking and confused! Will she be messing up my supply? Should I be expressing the other breast when she doesn't feed (its been 8 hours since I fed from one breast as she has been 4 hourly since last night!).

Hey hun, at 4weeks my dd did the same. Some days she fed constantly, others barely seemed to touch much but bounced between boobs for a suck here or there. It will settle bit more to a pattern when you get to about 8wks or so and more. Also at 4wks theres a growth spurt, could be this as well... Things will be much different each week from now on as you keep going on.... Somehow the body does seem to keep up....

Sorry to hijack but my ds is 8 days old and has fed 2 hourly or less until today and has slept nearly all day having only quick 10-15 minute feeds then ging back to sleep. I'm getting quite worried

Exquisite - Are you still under the MWs? Could you phone the Post-natal ward for an expert opinion? That's not me saying it sounds like something is seriously wrong but if you are worried then it's worth getting a professional to have a look/review to put your mind at rest.

Exquisite - I was the same and still am with DD who is 17 days old. I asked the midwife and she told me to keep a record of every time she feeds. In 24 hours (1.00pm - 1.00am) she had to have a minimum of 8 feeds, 5 wet nappies with poo in at least one of these. I still keep a record of feeds now and find it really useful. Today she had very little until this evening.

Her feeds range from 5 mins to 25 mins. The health visitor told me last week that this is spot on.

At the end of the day as long as your baby is putting on weight and producing the wet/dirty nappies that's great.
