How long after stopping last feed does milk dry up?

Am going back to work in 4 weeks (eek.) I am going to stop breastfeeding before then. I have cut down slowly and I now only do one breast feed out of 4 milk feeds. It is the 7am feed. How long after I drop it do you think it will take before milk dries up? I am worried about leaking at work but want to leave it as late as possible. I know I could continue but I want to stop. LO is 6 months old.

It can vary - I breastfed DS1 for 14 months, 2 weeks after stopping my milk had completely dried up.

DS2 was fed for just 5 days (and he didn't really take much as we didn't have much success) - 6 MONTHS later my milk finally dried up completely !

took me 2-3 weeks too

and a thousand breast pads, triple layered

I stopped b/f dd when she was 16 mths she is now 3.4 yrs
I still regularly spot it
I guess the answer must be that it varies hugely

Can't remember leaking but when I gave up with DS (after cutting down gradualy to 1 feed a day) I was in agony with tender boobs for 2-3wks. Ouch.

Gosh. I didn't realise it could be that long or be painful even after doing it so gradually. Oh well, I'll leave it another two weeks. I know I will be sad to stop as well as being relieved. I'm really glad I did it - didn't fancy it at all when I was pregnant but felt like the most normal thing in the world.
