any ideas as to why it might have suddenly got quite painful to feed my 2yr old?
doesn't seem to matter how he latches on, it just hurts!!!

and no, i'm not pregnant Wink

Well, that's my #1 theory gone, then...

I suppose you could have thrush? Bad luck to get it now if so, though.

Watching with interest. It's really painful feeding 14 mo DS on the left at the moment. He had a four-day nursing strike a month ago and I think his latch went a bit crap :(

don't think it's thrush, have had that before and it's not quite the same,

think it must be a latch issue, but not sure how to mend it

Back molars coming through? Shallow latch or just feeling uncomfy?

thisisyesterday · 03/12/2011 20:05

hmm he is due back molars

i've just noticed i'm getting teeth marks (from his top teeth). what might he be doing differently? and how do i stop it?
it's uncomfy at first but gets more painful as feed goes on (poss just where it's rubbing the whole time)

It could be he has adjusted his latch due to the back teeth and that has had a big knock on effect on you.

You could try getting him to do a big mouth before latching on?

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 03/12/2011 21:04

DS has done this from time to time and it's usually sorted itself out. I know what you mean about marks from the top teeth. It's often been related to teething here, and more recently, ovulation.

A big mouth sounds good - it works for us when I can persuade DS to say 'aaaah' (although that often prompts him to say 'eeeee' which is what I try to get him to do when cleaning his teeth - not helpful for bf purposes. Hmm)

yeah i def get more uncomfortable around ovulation, and when my period is due too.

i think part of the problem is that actually I don't know what a good latch looks like.. he normally just goes on and does it himself, so now i don't know how to fix it lol
i had him come off about 5 times this evening and it still was uncomfortable,

will have a go at getting him to open super-wide next time though
