Why are my nipples cracking again afer 5 months?

I had cracked nipples when starting out breastfeeding but they went within a week or two. Now DS is 5 months and it's happened again. I've double checked his latch which seems fine. Could he be sucking differently or something? Very confused!

most likely positioning - as they get bigger and heavier the head falls back more and drags - try experimenting with cushions etc

Thanks Roobie - I'll give that a shot. Just thinking about it, I'm feeding him more when out (at relatives etc of Xmas) and I don't tend to get as comfy with cushions etc. So I may be letting him pull on me a bit.

any teeth yet? babies often nip or nibble at the breast when they are teething as they get used to the sensation of new teeth.

suzi - is he eating solid food? Sometimes this changes baby's saliva and mother's skin breaks out in response.

Hi sazhig - he's most definately teething. I think they're almost there so that may have something to do with it.

Tiktok - nothing other than breastmilk to date [very proud emoticon]

Nipples arent feeling too bad. It's amazing because at 2 days old nipples like this felt like hell!

I think teething can alter the saliva can't it? This might affect your nipples.
