Does anyone else have a super speedy nursing baby??!

I know that I should not compare babies at all, but I'm just wondering how long other people's babies take to complete a breastfeed?

My 5wk old seems to be snacking every few hours - she only nurses for 5 to 10mins....in fact 10 mins MAX. And never really on both boobs - only one side. My let down is pretty fast - she gulps like mad at start of feed & if she does come off (which she doesnt often do at let down, so the flow is presumably ok for her) then my milk practically spurts across the room!

I seem to recall my other babies being quick feeders too (but perhaps not THIS quick), & I never offered them both boobs either, they only ever fed from one side. DD is doing plenty of wet & pooey nappies per day, not had her weighed since day 18 (when she was 4oz over birth weight), but she is growing a cute double chin & seems to be getting heavier (my arms hurt now when I hold her for too long!), so I guess she is getting enough milk.

I just wondered if anyone else has / has had super speedy nursing babies? Is this normal?!

Both mine were quick and fed off one boob at a time most of the time.

Our DD was 10 minutes max and did every 3 hours day and night for the first 3 months. Just don't ask me what happened after 3 months Grin.

Yes, DD2 feeds very quickly, has been timed at four minutes! This has been going on since she was around 6-7 weeks I think, she's 5.5m now. Only has one side, occasionally she has the other side but if she does, usually then spits a lot up. I have a very fast flow as well. DD1 fed for a lot longer and more frequently, but DD2 seems to be an extremely efficient feeder. If she's feeding to sleep she can go on a lot longer though.

My Boy also used to be a 4-minute-one-boob man. Now at 14 months its much more leisurely.

Yep! I remember the health visitor telling me to try and make it longer so she'd go longer between feeds - not possible!

I've had two extreams, DS who was a very quik feeder from day one only 5 minutes a side. But didn't losse weight at all just gained like his sister.

DD on the other hand took about 45-50mintes to feed for the first 6-8week's after which is was more like 20minutes.

DS was a bit of a shock after her, I kept wanting to poke him to feed him more. I just think he was more efficent from the word go. He will have a sleepy feed now at 12months taking longer.

Thanks ladies....I guess we're lucky having super efficient feeders!
