Losing milk and 15 mo old won't drink cows' milk??

I don't know what to do! Dd is 15 mo old, and tends to have a bf once or twice a dat, normally morning and bedtime. Quite often she won't bother with one of these though.

I noticed this morning that she barely swallowed during the feed, and it felt different....I think I may be losing my milk? I am 15 wks pregnant as well.

My worry is she has never really taken to cows milk, I offer her warmed full fat on occasion and she will have a few slurps then lose interest. She does have a reasonable amount of dairy on the whole, yogurt or porridge for breakfast, cheese, cheese sauces etc...but I'm worried if I lose my milk she won't have enough.

What should I do?

Sounds like your doing everything you need to already, if she's having plenty of dairy in her diet then you don't necesarly need to make her drink milk.

Do you want to carry on nursing her? often supply does dip during pregnacy but baby's will carry on feeding regarless (some will wean at this point) others will carry on dry nursing untill your supply comes back.

I think if you have a look on kellymom website you'll find some info of feeding while pregant.

I had exactly the same with DS1. He was totally reliant on breast milk, would never take from a bottle and refused cows milk. When he got to 14 months and I wanted to stop breast feeding I tried soya milk, which is a little sweeter than cows milk, in a beaker (he would drink water from beakers). This worked and so gradually I mixed soya and cows milk together until I phased the soya milk out completely.

DS never drank milk of any sort once I stopped breastfeeding at 15 months. He's now 13 and 5'10". No need to worry about not drinking milk if they are getting calcium in other ways.

Thanks all. She had no bf at all yesterday, and only once today. I think I do want to carry on, it is mega painful at the moment, but as it is so infrequent I can cope I think.

Maybe I will just feed her when she asks, which she is very good at doing even without speech! And make sure she has a good few dairy portions a day along with offering her warm cows milk every now and then and seeing if she likes it.

Hi ninky
I had the same but earlier in pg. I'm now 16 weeks and DD has a renewed interest in her bedtime feed.

Anyway, I was really concerned about her fluid intake so I'm afraid I was quite naughty and I put about 1/4 teaspoon cocoa powder in her milk then gradually reduced it and now she drinks maybe 400 ml cows milk a day (no cocoa!).

But I do have friends whose children of 12-18 months drink no breast, formula or cows milk. And all the health visitors say its fine so long as there's plenty of calcium in their diet etc.
