advice about a REALLY good (the best?) breast pump?

I have a medala swing already, I am thinking a super duper dual electric breast pump.

I am having to pump 8oz a day (6oz before bed and a 2oz dream feed top up)

at the moment i am needing to pump 3 times a day to get this amount of milk, so i want a pump where i can express more than 4oz at a time.

any ones to avoid?

Only one that worked for me was the avent with the breast petal. I think it's a matter of what works for you.

Does your local NCT branch have a super dual you could hire to try out first?

I have hired the Medela Symphony and has been great for me! It's not cheap at £45 every 30 days but is really fast and hasn't painful at all! Has allowed me to carry on breastfeeding even though I have had to return to doing a few hours work when my little one is only 9 weeks old :( - the joys of being self employed!

Well, I'd second hiring one. But I'd also think about looking into 'open' and 'closed' systems on pumps if you want to avoid any. Tis pretty icky and was the main factor in me going for an Ameda Lactaline (which I only use occasionally).

I had an Ameda Lactaline double pump. Was fab.

I second Mrs Kitty.

I have a medela freestyle, bought as I needed to express long term for DD1 and the cost (over 200) was going to be less than long term rental. It is very good (as effective as the one I rented) and is now being used for DD2.

Avoid open system - it makes for some seriously icky reading.

I have an Ameda Lactaline and DS has EBM while I work. I can easily get 8oz at a time because the adjustability of the suction/speed means I can trigger 2 letdowns.

Medela Symphony is the hospital grade pump. Its the absolutely best one. I can empty both sides 4-5oz in 10mins. Rental only though

I'm with RandomMess, Avent all the way but it's a V personal thing. Any friends got pumps you can try before you commit?

I got a lacteline for my return to work and it was fab. check out Ebay, mine was £50 on there.
