Quick question - Daktarin

Just been prescribed Daktarin for thrush, as sore nips (ouch!) - although no sign of any symptoms in ds (GP checked him thoroughly). Anyway, the tube of cream just says to use twice daily - do I have to wash it off before feeding?

Hi Nanneh and anyone else who can help, I have just finished antibiotics so ditched the nystan and bought some daktarin cream and oral gel. Just wanted a couple more tips as wasn't advised how to use this as not prescribed.

How many times should I use the cream, and where should I put the gel in ds' mouth as he has no symptoms of thrush. I tried putting some in his mouth twice today - the first time he dribbled it out in a lump, the second time he sucked it off my finger (teething) and then decided he hadn't finished breastfeed so went on to feed some more, probably washing it away!

pookey - so sorry didn't see this till today ! My advice may be too late now (hope not !), but my DS had no visible sign of thrush in his mouth either. It was the shooting pains in my breasts that told me I had thrush !

I would put the gel on his gums, top and bottom and also on the roof of his mouth. If you put it on his tongue he will just swallow it. Try using a cotton bud, because you can reach different areas of the mouth and its more hygenic than useing fingers. I know this is easer said than done, mine used to suck anything on my fingers too ! But hopefully you will get more success with the cotton buds.
