I just felt the urge to share my happiness about my 1st bf in public experience:)
I went to Bluewater today and was nervous about feeding my 4 wk DD in public but wanted to through myself in the deep end so to speak and didn't take any other alternative with me!
As soon as we got there the hungry madam wanted food lol. So we headed to the Cadbury cafe ( my fav place lol) and asked for a table in the corner and we could choose where to go. My mum subtly told them it was so I could feed my DD and they didn't batter an eyelid and they were young ladies. I then bf her and the waitresses politely didn't take our order whilst I fed her.
I was so nervous as we are still working on my DD getting latches on without me watching /guiding her. But we did great lol. I managed to subtly bf her and I felt Soooooo proud of myself for giving my daughter the best and not being ashamed of it.

Oh and then I went to m. & s and had lunch ( we did do some shopping in between lol especially as grandma was on pram duty !)
M&s cafe was comfortable too, had a few stares but overall the older population looked over and smiled.again I sat there with a smile on my face as I was as pleased as punch :) Oh but I did find that the changing room in the cafe was a mess, people had left their dirty nappies on the side :(

Grin Fab to get the first time over with, I used to feel much more conscious of it than anyone around. Never had a comment or a look once, I was gutted

Wooooooooooooooppity · 26/10/2011 22:44

Well done you, glad it went well. [hsmile]

BonnyBanks · 26/10/2011 22:49

Fantastic! The first time is the hardest, now you've done it you'll find it much easier next time. Also as your confidence with your latch increases you won't be so self conscious.

organiccarrotcake · 26/10/2011 23:34

Yay, well done you!! :)

dottyhenson · 26/10/2011 23:37

CrazyAlien06 · 27/10/2011 02:58

Well done you!

YOU GOT YOUR NORKS OUT IN PUBLIC? Ha ha, only kidding. My 'first time' wasn't half as exciting. DH and I went to a cafe and I BF DD. I was so proud until DH pointed out that all the customers and staff were female and smiley except for him. I have since BF in much scarier places. Onwards and upwards!

ghoulionine · 27/10/2011 07:22

Good on you!

I cannot remember my first experience of BF in public, I think it was quite natural for me to ignore absolutely everything going on arround me and concentrate on my DCs. TBH in the last decade I have BF 4 DCs for a total of about 8 years and I only ever had 1 unpleasant comment(middle aged man informing me that "there are toilets for this sort of thing!" he did not reply when I challenged him to go and eat his lunch in the toilet as well!). I think most people nowadays do understand and accept that mothers might want and will feed their babies in public places and have come to realise there is absolutely nothing remotly shocking in that!

JeelyPiece · 27/10/2011 09:29

Well done! You will be doing it without thinking twice about it in no time.

I was relieved to hear about the lack of battered eyelids in the Cadbury cafe too [hgrin]

planetpotty · 27/10/2011 09:51

Well done!! Grin

Honestly don't worry about latching on if it ever does get tricky just keep calm and try again. With both dc I had to guide them on in the end I found it quicker to just get on with it but in the early days a thin but large scarf/pashmina type thing was good draped over shoulder and over bambinos head.

Love hearing stories like yours Grin

pinkgirlythoughts · 27/10/2011 09:52

Well done you! The first time I did it I was at the holiday park DP works at, so luckily he with me in the cafe, and stood over me with a blanket while I faffed about latching DS on :) He then sat back and commented that "it really does just look like you're having a cuddle!" That gave me a lot of confidence, and since then I've just done it anywhere without really feeling bothered :)

Athrawes · 27/10/2011 10:02

Oh well done you.
I fed DS everywhere and I am afraid was a shameless hussy and didn't give a stuff what anyone thought.
In the school library whilst walking and talking to teenagers.
On the steps of a church.
In the small town cafe without a proper BF top, with school kids and the head master just nearby and had to wrangle entire bosom out!!
Sadly he stopped at 11mo. At 15mo he now sees my nipples and tweeks them like radio knobs, clearly has no memory of a prior use!

mumwithdice · 27/10/2011 10:31

Well done! It will now get easier and easier, I promise!

BonzoDooDah · 27/10/2011 10:33

Brilliant. Now you can go anywhere, anytime with DD and not have to worry. It's really liberating. Super.

dribbleface · 27/10/2011 11:04

Crazyalien06 - well done you! Grin. I'm very Envy as can't manage it with DS yet, if i cover him and me up he just falls asleep and if not he bob's on and off the breast so often.

Mimmee · 27/10/2011 12:10

Brilliant well done! I remember finding it so hard and first and diving into numerous toilets to feed but got over that when I was sat with a friend feeding her 18mo old and no one batted an eyelid.

Make the most of it now to get out and about while she's still so portable, and the more you do it the more comfortable you will feel. People by and large either don't notice or don't care.
