Stupid Breastfeeding Q- feel free to roll eyes at me!

I am exclusively breastfeeding 16 week old dd. Today I got my first period since delivery and was surprised as I thought I would not get one if exclusively feeding. Does the fact that I got it bear any relation to milk supply ie. is there a chance it could reduce it? Not sure why I have this idea in my head but would appreciate a reply if anyone know the answer to my strange query! Thanks in advance

hiya
i got my period with my exclusively bf babies 4 weeks after lochia stopped and it made no diff to the milk supply. Some mums are just unlucky that periods start quickly after birth whilst bf i think.

Brill, thanks for replying so quickly and putting my mind at rest! The slightest thing seems to affect dd's feeding so I am always on the look out for things IYSWIM

Yes, it's just bad luck but shouldn't make any difference to your supply - although you may want to think about taking supplements, just to prevent yourself getting depleted in iron etc. It won't affect what the baby is getting.

i also got periods while exclusively breastfeeding. i think some of us are just too well nourished

also if you have long gaps in feeding (i.e. if your baby sleeps through the night) then periods are more likely to come back.

i have had 2 small one day bleeds in the 10months i have been breastfeeding. its very strange.

We are all very different as women - I sadly restarted perioeds when my exclusively B/F son was 6 weeks old. I fely very cheated. he did, however, sleep all night fron 12 weeks old so he was only probably feeding once a night at 6 weeks. All depends on how much feeding you need to do to satisfy your babe.

Sorry for typos - too much wine

well i'm only b/feeding my babe once a day and i still havent got mine back after 9 weeks - that doesnt mean i'm pg does it!??? AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (cacking pants emoticon)
(sorry to hijack btw)

Thanks everyone I knew you would know

Didn't think of the sleeping through thing, and dd does that now so that could be it. Know what you mean about feeling cheated though!

Cubby- I'm no expert but sure it doesnt necessarily measn you are pg again, though of course cannot promise that! Hijack away, I dont mind
