Baby sicking up milk

My ds is 2 weeks old and over the last few days he has started being very sick when we wind him. He is sicking up about half of his feed which means he is then starving again.

Is this normal? Dh thinks he is unwell and we should phone the mw.

He has been alot more grotty over the last few days - he doesn't seem so happy to settle and has slept quite alot too.

Can anyone offer any helpful advice?

maybe it is a bug, my dts had one. Have you or dh been ill at all?
Or it coule be wind or drinkign too quick - try winding him half way thru the feed rather than waiting til the end.

None of us have been sick. We have had people visit who have had colds though.

if baby has a cold he may be throwing up if mucus is going down his throat. dt2 starts bringing back bottles with even the slightest sniffle. Some babies jsut do. If you are worried, then call the hv.

Sweetheart - r u bottle feeding or breastfeeding??

Some babies are sickier than others. Maybe wind him less or not at all and see how he is.

Oh bless him! well i had similar problems when my ds1 was small and he was having a bottlefeed, it turned out the holes in the teat were slightly too big and he was getting his milk too quickly, causing him to take in alot of air too, this resulted in him being very sicky as he had SO much air when he burped he'd bring alot of his feed up with it and he would do this a few times with each feed and not only that but alot of the air remained despite our efforts to bring it up and so he had tummy ache and was very restless and wriggly, he never seemd to relax or be content, i got slightly smaller holed teats and gave him gripe water with his feeds (although you cant give gripe water until they are 4 weeks or more - you could give infacol though) this DID seem to help! its not nice when they seem poorly is it? i hope he feels better soon and i hope his little op goes ok too, good luck with trying to get him back on the breast too - you will find loads of great people to help you on here - they are all an endless supply of great info !!

could be that yor bub is suffering from reflux. the gastroesophageal valve, that holds food in and lets food into the stomach can sometimes be underdeveloped. this causes babys to sick back alot of their feed. the problem with this comes if your bub is not putting on enough weight. Make sure your teat is slow flow. try winding after every onz (if poss). if this still doesn't work see you hv about getting gaviscon or milk thickeners. The absolute best bottle you could have is a hayberman feeder (especially if baby is tonguetied and you want to go back onto the breast). this may not be the case but worth thinking about if the prob persists. It can often make your bub quite unhappy as it gives them baby heart burn too :-(
