Hi
Want to wean DS2 off me and onto a bottle, he's 8mths. DS1 had no problem so figured DS2 would be the same! No! Tried SMA Progress and he vomitted after one mouthful, tried again and vomitted again. Tried the next day with it half strength and the same reaction. Now trying Actimel powder tomorrow, if this doesn't work what can i do???

peaches - 20 years ago WHO and UNICEF did not recommend excl. bf for the first 6 months. They do now.

I totally disagree that weaning later is "in fashion", in fact most people I know in London wish to either wean off the breast or wean onto solids way before the WHO recommendations. Gucci changing bags are definetly in fashion though Grin

gsack - I am totally ignorant about infant formulas - however - I strongly advise against cow's milk for a baby this young. Many inter. health orgs. suggest that you wait to year 1 before introducing a baby to cow's milk.

This is because cow's milk can be highly allergenic (formula also contains cow's milk which can explain vomitting) and also does not have the added vits. etc that they put into artificial formulas, i.e has no nutritienal value for a baby as young as 8 mo.

Read kellymom.com - excellent scientific bf website which also has a section on cow's milk.

My friend had this problem with ds1. He used to bring back the whole bottle a minute after he'd drunk it. She was going back to work at 6 months and couldn't express easily at work as she's a Dr. She just tried loads of different formulas until eventually she found one he'd accept (think it was Cow & Gate in the end). Good luck.....
