Do I have to wean 13mo to use Clomid?

I have a 13mo DS. He loves breastfeeding and while frankly I wish he wouldn't love it so much at night, I'm happy to carry on while he still loves and relies on it for comfort.

However, I have a fertility problem. Without going into it, my hormones levels are back to their pre-conception lows and the doctor says that I will need Clomid again to conceive.

This is fine but she says I have to wean my son to take Clomid. Is this definitely true? I thought I had read before that it might affect milk production but was not thought to be unsafe.

I'm confused now because I don't want the hospital not to offer me the Clomid and hormone therapy as I really really want another child and I'm not 21 anymore. But I also don't want to wean this kid before we are both ready.

Any breastfeeding/medical gurus out there who can tell me if I definitely have to wean to start on Clomid?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know, but I would advise contacting the Breastfeeding Network - they have a pharmacist who specialises in medication and its effect on breastfeeding.

Here is the information from Lactmed

Summary of Use during Lactation:
Clomiphene (Clomid) has not been studied during breastfeeding, but several studies found that it suppresses lactation in women who did not want to breastfeed. It appears to act by lowering serum prolactin, especially the post-stimulation surge in serum prolactin. It is likely that clomiphene would interfere with lactation in a nursing mother.
