Please don't say you're all going to be teetotal.

roobie and cattle - you make me feel much better!

Tinker · 15/12/2005 10:19

Relieved to read these. Still drink couple of most nights but baby used to sleep!

OMG, didn't know any of this....when I breastfed ds1 20 years ago, the advice was no drinking!!! And with ds2 didn't feel inclined to drink.

So no more guilt for one wee glass of Baileys then!! I'm away to check kellysmom, to see how much I can have!!

wilbur · 15/12/2005 10:59

Will have a glass of champagne 1st thing, and another before lunch and probably a glass of vino during lunch. Will avoid the stickies afterwards tho, but mainly as I am such a cheap date now I would be all over the place! Am at in laws for Xmas and they used to be the kind of people who only have wine on the table, no water or soft stuff. Used to drive me nuts with thirst (or I got hideously plastered ) but now have trained MIL to provide water as well as the hard stuff.

Tinker · 15/12/2005 11:03

Checked out kelly mom - still really only says 1 to 2 units - which isn't really my idea of drinkning...

Tinker - I would have a champagne breakfast if I could, but I have to drive at 11am, 3pm and again at 7pm, so actually it's the driving which is just as important in stopping me drinking till then as the bfing. If not driving, I would have a couple during the day, as it's a special occasion I wouldn't worry too much about a couple of drinks.

RacersTheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2005 11:06

Oh I x-posted. 2units in 24hrs? Seems a little bit conservative. It's what I'd have normally but now and then I have more. Am I bad?

Tinker · 15/12/2005 11:07

And don't feed until about 3 hours after?! Doesn't really allow for a waking baby. Harrumph.

RacersTheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2005 11:16

3 hrs would allow the milk to be pretty much free of alcohol (though I expect that depends on lots of factors, but as an average...), but it's ok for a teeny bit of alcohol in there, isn't it?! gulp

wessexgirl · 15/12/2005 11:50

I find expressing more than 2oz virtually impossible but am expressing a little bit every day to freeze so I can have a few jars on Christmas Day.

Will prob do the same as Enid and have a glass of champagne at breakfast then a couple of glasses (large ones) of wine in the evening. I'll have to make it early evening though cos dd2 still wakes for a night feed at the moment.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 15/12/2005 12:01

wessex girl, re the expressing, have you tried expressing from one breast while you are feeding on the other? takes a bit of dexterity but I find once the let down kicks in the milk really gushes out.

wessexgirl · 15/12/2005 12:18

Hi harpsi , yes I have tried that but although it did help a bit, it was still not really enough for a full feed.

I used a manual pump with dd1 so thought perhaps an electric pump would be better...but it's just as slow and deafens me into the bargain. Argh!

popsycalindisguise · 15/12/2005 12:23

exoress a bit at each feed and by the end of the day you will have enough for a full feed...which you can freeze

suzi2 · 15/12/2005 22:25

erm I have a couple of glasses of wine most nights! Usually after feeding DS...

Will be having a couple at Xmas

AChristmasCarolinamoon · 15/12/2005 22:34

haven't been teetotal since I got back from the hosp just over 13m ago . First thing I had when we got home was an ice-cold bottle of beer. Bliss after sweltering in the postnatal ward for 4 days!

Tbh I am not keen on being blotto in charge of a baby at any time, so will be keeping to my usual couple of glasses of wine, or equivalent.

PickasillyChristmasName · 15/12/2005 22:35

No idea how much I'll drink but it won't be too much.

Or too little.

partypooka · 16/12/2005 08:45

Like Carolina, it's not the b/feeding that stops me from over-indulging - just that I know how rough I'll feel for the night feed/s. So I'll probably have champagne in the morning (1 glass) and maybe a couple of glasses of wine in the evening. That said, that'll probably be enough to bring out the Christmas cheer!

DingDongMerrilyOnHIGHLANDER · 16/12/2005 12:38

ooh, champers on Christmas Eve, mulled wine, more champers.......... here's hoping DS decides to sleep all night

Auntybrandybutter · 16/12/2005 12:53

I never drank at all when breasfeeding...oh tell a little fib had half a miniture Baileys. DS was born Christmas eve

Tinker · 16/12/2005 18:43

Oh, I wasn't intending to get blotto!

OP posts:
hercules · 16/12/2005 18:49

However much I want to.

TheFish · 16/12/2005 18:49

i read soemwhere you haev to be way over the legal drin kdrive limit to it have the tiniest effect oteh baby

hercules · 16/12/2005 18:50

dd always seems to sleep better when I've had a drink. Could be coincidence but still worth doing!

Tinker · 16/12/2005 19:08

Maybe it's you that sleeps better
