Just a couple of questions on breastfeeding - help!

Hello, just a few questions from a newish mummy.

My DD is ten weeks old tomorrow. My mum is looking after DD tomorrow for about three hours and then again on the Sunday for about five hours. I just dont know how much expressed milk to give her! I've expressed a couple of bottles but I dont want to give too much milk to my mum for DD's need and it to be wasted. Any suggestions?

not sure tbh, but think it's better to leave too much than not enough (!)?? hardly ever expressed but would a 10wk old be having 4oz bottles still? at least that much for 3 hrs i guess then??

I've done a couple of 4oz bottles, got two full ones which are currently in the freezer and I'll have two fresh bottles by tomorrow morning. I think by Sunday morning I should have 20oz in total. I've brought some bags to use in the freezer so should I express a couple of 2oz bags and keep them in my mum's freezer just in case?
It's so confusing, I wish my boobs had levels on the say how much had been drunk on each feed!

don't worry about it being wasted as the more you produce, even through expressing, the more your breasts will make for the next feed so there will be no waste.

If you can I would give two four ounce bottles each time and give a feed before the long Sunday session.

I wouldn't worry about wasting your milk - you'll make more anyway and you didn't pay for it

Better to divide up the couple of bottles you do have into say 4/5 smaller feeds and then see how tomorrow goes. THen you'll have a better idea of how many for Sunday. And if the worst comes to the worst and there isn't enough (v unlikely) your dd won't starve and will see you again soon enough. You'll both be fine.

If you get a chance on the Sunday when you're away for longer - nip into a loo and do a quick express to fool your boobs into thinking you've done a feed - otherwise you might leak a bit!

try leaving the 4 oz feed in 2 2 oz servings for the 3 hrs. Or if you are paranoid like I would be, leave 3 2 oz feeds. Cannot hurt.

My dd is 34 wks old. For nursery I leave 3 6 oz bottles for 8.5 hrs and she could do 9 hrs too. Initially, if she would take a whole oz from a bottle without a fuss was a victory!

how often does she normally feed? will you give her a feed just before you leave?

i started mixed feeding ds when he was around 4 months, and he was only taking around 4-5oz a time!

i would express maybe 2 lots of 3/4oz each time... that way if she wants more it's there, and if it isn't used you can then freeze it
