Did you change your babies bottles to normal cows milk at 12mo?

DD is nearly 12 mo, can I give them full fat cows milk for their morning and bedtime bottle? I have some friends who do this, but tbh I think I would prefer to keep giving DD formula for her bedtime bottle (just coz of the extra vitamins etc etc)....maybe i could just change her morning bottle to normal cows milk?

What does everyone else do please???? Are there any particular reasons that i should change to ordinary cows milk??

With dd I kept formula going until she was around 2 years old because she was a poor eater so I was comforted to think that her formula was 'fortified' with additional vits etc; which might compensate for her poor diet.

With ds I switched to cows milk at 12 months because he was eating well - a wide variety of foods.

I was going to change to cow's milk at 12 months but DD didn't like it (at 3.5 she still doesn't; neither do I). So we stuck with formula until she was 18 months, when she finally gave it up all together. She was a good eater and everything, but I didn't feel ready to give up all milk drinks entirely so kept with the formula.

dd went on to Cows milk at 6 months

Cow's milk is fine from 12 momths according to HV. Especially if dd is eating a wide range of foods. You might want to carry on with a vitamin supplement though. HV said till 5 to us.
Don't think there's any pressing reason to though, other than you'll presumably have to one day!!

think the formula people have done a great job marketing their stuff for 12 months plus, I know very few children this age on cows milk

Feistybird · 12/12/2005 18:04

Both Dds went straight onto cows milk - I figured formula esp that 'fortified for toddlers' stuff would just feed them up too much and detract from their eating.

Both are very good eaters generally.

Both mine too. DD2 was still breastfed when she was at home at that age, as well. Neither of them like cows' milk much - pretty well their only dislike, actually - but it honestly doesn't bother me much, especially as they are both as DD1 puts it 'partial to cheese'.

DS .. yes cow's milk at 12 months

DD .. cow's milk at 10.5 months

I think the added vitamins are a waste unless child is not eating a varied diet

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 18:11

I did with ds. With dd will be using cups and maybe still breastfeeding a bit too esp in the changeover period.

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 18:12

Organic full fat normal milk is fine. Went onto semi-skimmed at 2 as that's what dh and I prefer.

LilacBump · 12/12/2005 18:15

i gave DD whole milk with meals etc and then still a bottle of formula at night.

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 12/12/2005 18:16

We still give the Inferiorettes full fat - think it's recommended up to about five. They are not exactly the chunkiest children around, of course.
