I use Aptamil - used SMA Gold initially but it literally knocked him out ... with Aptamil he seems more alert ...

Kirstie - we're on SMA gold for dd (23 weeks) and it's interesting what you say about knocking them out... dd is a BIG sleeper: morning nap can be 1 -2 hours, afternoon nap can be upto 4 or 5 hours (often shorter though), and she sleeps through from whenever to 7:30ish... we stimulate her a lot when she's up though, but I've always put it down to her nature / personality IYSWIM rather than the milk...

hub2dee - he'd finish the bottle and literally zonk - no activity time .... as soon as we changed milk he played a lot more and was much more alert ....

Interesting, k. Our dd doesn't zonk straight away atfer a feed, LOL. Sometimes the night feed turns straight into a slumber, but not often, and after the day feeds we do tend to get 1 - 4 hours awake for activity, which she / we seem to be happy with.

I'd have been happy with that too - that's what i get now with the aptamil - with the sma there was nothing keeping ds awake every feed resulted in zzzzzzzzz and I could burp him and everything without him waking ......

I didn't change the milk because of that - changed as he was also a very sicky little man ..... this got less after the swap from sma to aptamil and then less again when we changed to aptamil 2. Since I discovered Dr Brown's bottles this is less again so things improved all the time!

The alert hours were an added bonus as I love to enjoy my little boy!

Glad you found a solution for you both ! I guess the SMA was too heavy for his gut to process IYSWIM - perhaps there was some kind of food intolerance behind it all ?
