Will my boobs stay this big???

I need to get nursing bras as have none that fit! But not sure how the size changes after the first few days.

Pre baby I was size 32dd so quite big anyway.
Throughout the pregnancy I went up loads in size and towards the end was 34gg
baby is now 5 days old and my milk has come in, my boobs are ginormous. I've ordered a bra in 36h a couple of days ago thinking that would be fine but I'm not sure now that if will if boobs stay this big!!!

Is this engorgment and likely to go down a bit after a few days? Or will just the hot hard feeling go away and the size stay huge even after a few days?
What normally happens???

Yes they will go down. Mine were ginumbous (real word honest) when my milk can in, but they settled shrunk down once feeding was established. So maybe in a week or so, they will not be quite so full. As milk is produced on a supply-demand basis.

They will go down initially and then again as you reduce supply. They may not go back to pre p size.

Try cabbage leaves inside your bra between feeds. I heard this when feeding DS but didnt believe it. Tried it with dd and was amazed at how much it helped.

In contrast to these two ladies, I'm still an enormous HH a year later (feeding has reduced, but not finished)

I do remember that for the first couple of weeks, before they settled down they were big beachballs - hard and engorged, but whilst they're no-longer the same ridiculous shape, the volume still leaves me needing an HH..

I'm hoping that when the little guy finally decides to give in they'll go down a bit, because they actually get in the way of me touching my toes!

I swear my boobs were as big as my head when my milk came in! It doesn't last tho. As an alternative to cabbage leaves try freezing face flannels & placing them in your bra. They are quite malleable & cos of the heat evaporating the water they don't end up making you all soggy. I eventually got back to my pre bf-ing size a few months after stopping bf-ing, after about 2 yrs.

Blush I know mine were the size of my head, because in a fit of madness I tried the bra on as a hat.....

and it was baggy.......

You should really get yourself measured by a trained bf bra fitter. If you were a 32 before you were pg, you are very unlikely to be a 36 (although not impossible!)

Try your local nct, you can find their phone number online, and might even come to you at home for a fitting (I do this).

It's hard to say whether they will stay as big, but the hard, engorged feeling should go away after a few days - your baby is just getting you up to maximum volume!

Congratulations on the new baby, by the way! Smile

I was busting out of a 32GG 4 or 5 days after DD2 was born. Now she is 6 mo I am happily back in a 30F which is what I was pre-pregnancy. Once your supply regulates you'll have a better idea of what bra size you need.

When I got measuered for my nursing bras at the end of pregnancy to go down a back size and up 2 cup sizes went from a 38 C to 36 DD once nursing. As your ribs returne to their normal position but your boobs get bigger obv.

They'll go down in time. I was still quite hefty when DD was 3 months, I realised that when I went on the running machine. All back to normal now (3yrs on).
