Can I get a blocked duct after 14 months of pain free feeding?

DD is 14mo. Had a rocky few weeks at the start with bad latch, but since then she's been a great feeder.

Since her birthday she's been on two feeds a day - first and last thing. Friday bedtime it felt like she'd bitten me, or had a really terrible latch again. Yesterday was painful feeding - she fed a couple of times in the night as well which were toe curling like the early days. It feels almost like bad latch, but tonight I've noticed a little lump where I thought she'd bitten, at the 'base' of my nipple (where the sticky out bit meets the areola bit, I have no idea of the technical descriptions!).

Does that sound like a blocked duct? I didn't think I'd get one after all this time

It doesn't necessarily sound like a blocked duct to me - when I had one (in the early days) it felt hot and throbbing and was a reddish patch in the skin.

I've had what you describe where the sticky out bit meets the areola, and it was really sore. I think it was probably a latch issue, and might have been to do with teething. IIRC it's happened a couple of times. DS's latch always gets worse for a while before new teeth come through.

Could it be teething?

Afraid I can't offer much advice other than Lansinoh to help it - it seemed to disappear on its own for me and I'm pretty sure the lump went down again.

I had lumps appear when I breast fed, thing they may have been blocked ducts. Had one in a similar area to you. Anyway I was told to massage the lump to help clear it, I did this for a couple of days and it went away. xxx

The problem that you describe is not familiar to me, but problems can definitely crop up after many many months of happy feeding. Have just got over my first ever milk blister at 20 months. OUCH. It was totally unexpected AGONY and I have no clue what caused it.

I've been watching closely today and I think she's about to get a molar break through. She's been doing a bit of the locking jaw thing I do when my wisdom teeth are on the move, and her smile has totally changed over the weekend. Ok, that sounds bonkers, but she has got a bit of a grin (grimace?) going now, totally different shape smile than before

Those links are great, I think it's probably just teeth scraping/teething/bad latch type injury. It's less painful to feed today, but the lump is still there. It doesn't sound like a blocked duct though, but I'll massage it a bit just in case

OMG a milk blister sounds bad! I don't think I want to get one of those.
