Co-sleeping and BF to sleep - can it end naturally?

DD si 14months and I am beginning to worry about the whole rods and backs thing.

I was just wondering if I do absolutely no "sleep training" will she naturally grow out of it and want to move into her own bed by say the age of 4/5?

I'm ok with the current arrangements at the moment but am beginning to wonder if there is an end in sight, or whether I should start being more proactive?

I've read the no cry sleep solution but I am absolutely certain there will be tears if I try and stop her nursing at night.

Would love to be told that she will grow out of it naturally...

Sure she will! DD1 has just stopped feeding to sleep- she will still have a feed at bed time but she doesn't fall asleep on the boob any more. She's also started making noises about sleeping in her racing car bed but so far she's changed her mind after about 20 mins She'll get there when she's ready.

I think if you try and force things before they are ready then sometimes it can make things worse. If you're happy to wait then it will happen with no prompting from you. Have you read Three in a Bed?

I felt exactly like you do not long ago, and although DS still spends ha,f the night in our bed, he no longer feeds to sleep and settles in his own cot. (Albeit with me giving him lots of cuddles and kisses and staying by his side till he goes, but it is a HUGE relief as I was really getting irritated by his comfort suckling). He's almost 19 months old now and it just happened naturally about 1 to 1.5 months ago. We were umming and aaahing about using Dr Jay's method and at one point I was so desperate I considered CC (I'm pregnant and it was becoming a source of worry and irritation) but one evening while I was feeding him, he just pulled off and I decided to put him in his cot and after 10 minutes of writhing around, he slept.

So, it does happen. Not saying it will happen like that for you but it is definitely possible.

I stopped night feeds at 20 months and also swapped my son from a cot to a single bed and he immediately started sleeping all night in his own bed. Before that, he went to sleep in his own bed, but then we co-slept from whenever he woke up.

Dc2 moved to own bed at 2 years old. V excited to have own bedroom like older sibling and started having the occasional nap in the bed. Then progressed to wanting to go to sleep in it, but would come through in the night into our bed under own steam (often without waking me, climbing into the bedside cot or cuddling up). Same child is now nearly 4 and sleeps about 5 nights out of 7 right through in own bed. Still comes in during the night for cuddles sometimes. It goes in phases and comes and goes. I am fully confident one day soon we'll only see her a night if she's ill or had a bad dream, so and .

I guarantee whan your DC is 15 years old they will not want to be in bed with you .
