Which formula is best? SMA Gold making my lo gripey.

Our lo is a week old tomorrow and he is on formula.

He is on SMA Gold and we're using Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles.
He is feeding really well and has gained weight but he gets lots of wind, pulls his legs up a lot and it seems to take ages to get him to bring up his wind. I hate to see him uncomfortable.

Last time I bf exclusively for 5 months then gradually introduced a bottle - which was Farleys last time - over 2 months before giving up bf at 7 months. But it's obviously different starting on a bottle to swapping to one, and I'm feeling a little lost.

Any recommendations for formula to try? I don't really want to try a few different brands, as it's not going to be any good for our lo. What worked best for you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nutritionally all formulas are the same and there is no best as such, unfortunately it is just that some babies suit some brands better.

For myself my DD was EBF for 4 months but was very windy and often used to wake up several times through the night in pain from wind. When we moved onto formula we used Cow and Gate Comfort which seemed to make her less windy but the reduction in wind could also have been because she was moving around more.

Have you tried Infacol, we used to find that helped reduce the wind? I think sometimes babies are just windy babies and it's something they will grow out of.

We had the same problem with DD1 but she was on cow and gate and we were using the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles.

We tried all sorts but it wasn't until we changed her bottles to boots wide neck that things really improved. It turned out that although she had colic, the teat on the tommee tippee bottles were wide so she was sucking in a lot of air while she fed. The different bottles and colic drops (which we'd always ben using) worked wonders and she was a lot better.

Infacol and colic drops? He'll only be a week old tomorrow, is he too young to have them?

SMA made my LO constipated. Switched to Aptamil, problem solved.

I agree with DialM, we tried all the formulas but settled on Apitmil seemed the best one for our daughter. DD was also diagnosed with colic at one week old (at hospital) ? I had read the books and they all said 3 weeks for colic (from personal experience this is not true). Best thing I found and recommended to other mums with colic babies was the following:
? Dr brown?s bottles
? Uses Mam tits
? 2 drops of colief in each feed, within 2 days the colic was under control. I kept her on this for the next 12 weeks.

I mostly BF but my little one has and will drink any brand put in front of her to no ill effect. I prefer Hipp though. IMO, I just don't think it'll do much harm to try a few if needs be. Your milk isn't the same each feed is it?

Omneo Comfort is good for little ones with delicate stomachs. We were advised to try it as its partially pre-digested or something similar. Sounds revolting and leads to v smelly nappies indeed but did the trick!

Infacol can be used from birth and I think Colief can too. You do have to wait until 4 weeks before you can use gripe water though.

Dr browns bottles and easy digest formula such as cow and gate comfort. Worked for us.

We use dr brown bottles and hipp organic milk. Works great for us. We started on the sma gold too but made her sick after every feed.

dentinox colic drops can be used from birth too, just put it in the milk up to six times a day, we noticed the difference after two feeds and boy did we know about it if we didn't put it in one feed
