Help - Need to get 20 week DS to take bottle or cup!

I'm sure this has been covered numerous times but I really need some help to get my EBF DS to take milk from a bottle or cup. I've been very shortsighted by not sorting this out sooner but my problem is that I have a course that I would really like to attend next week but DS doesnt understand how to suck from a bottle and just looks confused when its offered. I have tried tommee tippee ones so far. Is a cup a realistic alternative?

Which cup are you trying nibsy? Some bf babies find the ones with valves hard to get used to, so maybe try one without.

Having said that both of mine were pretty persistent bottle refusers so hopefully someone with more experience will be along shortly.

Try a doidy cup, bf babies can find these easier as it requires a lapping action rather than sucking.
Or a Mam trainer cup, this has a large squeezy spout that requires sucking BUT will also leak liquid when 'gummed'

I had this problem recently (although I wanted to go on a hen weekend rather than a course )! After trying almost every type of bottle and cup on the market we finally had success with one of these (well an older version than the one in the link):

It has a soft silicone spout which allows milk through when the baby puts pressure on it. He didn't take to it straight away but clearly preferred this to all the other bottles and cups I was confusing him with. He is a bit gulpy with it so ends up full of wind, but that might just be because he's a very windy baby anyway! He now will also take milk or water from a tommee tippee "first cup" but it took longer for him to get used to it and he doesn't take as much.

I had longer than a week to persuade DS2 that he could take milk from something other than me and so I faffed around lots. Hopefully if you find some kind of cup he doesn't hate on sight and then persist with that he'll get the idea. Also there's a lot to be said for you not being there and someone else offering EBM in the cup. I wasn't convinced I'd be able to leave DS2 until a few days before the hen weekend when I was held up and couldn't get back for bedtime - DH offered milk in the cup and DS2 drank the lot, did a huge burp and fell asleep.

Hope your DS gets the hang of taking milk from some kind of cup so that you can do your course without worrying!

Oh and if your DS really doesn't seem to understand a bottle then don't waste time (or money) trying different ones. I did have some success with NUK bottles but never managed to persuade DS2 to take more than 2oz max and wasted loads of EBM trying!

I assume you've put EBM on the teat itself?
