winding at night (bf baby)

My LO is 4 months and wakes up twice during the night to feed. he doesn't 'wind' after his night feeds as he just falls asleep.I have tried to 'wind' him nonetheless and am only occassionaly successful.

now a problem because after his second feed, he takes a while to settle and he behaves like he's really uncomfortable. he'll sleep upright on my shoulder but as soon as i put him down - he starts to fudget and get distressed.

any ideas?

I will be keeping an eye as my DD is also 4 months and has EXACTLY the same issue. Always a pain to pass wind, which keeps us both up at night. Frustrating, no?

Out of curiosity, how do you do your night time feeds? I always lie down with LO lay on her side next to me feeding and I rarely need to wind her after. She falls asleep and I just move her over onto her back. She is a little younger than your LO though at 9 weeks so maybe I have this to come.

I have heard that feeding with LO upright can prevent them becoming as windy so that might help. something to try I guess until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

I feed her sitting up in bed, unless i am too exhausted to stay awake, in which case I put her in bed with me and we both lie down.

I have just done a feed, she's obviously tired and half asleep, but is thrusting and lifting her legs up and whining. It's driving me nuts!

I Have the sane issue with two week-old dd think it might be in the latch going to go to bf support group next week see if the can offer any suggestions

I don't wind 2m/o DS who is BF lying down 3-5 times during the night. I wind him after his first morning feed and this seems fine. Can you try bf lying down with him on his side?

I always worried about this. I feed lying down at night and if he didn't settle I'd lift him and wind him, sometimes he'd burp, sometimes not but then he'd be awake again and needing milk! Arrgggh! I don't think there is a hard and fast rule with some babies, you just have to try different things at different times.

OP, sorry but sounds like he just wants to sleep on you! Sometimes you have to wait til they are in a really deep sleep (floppy arms) before you can get them down - what a knacker it is!

Don't worry in a few months they can deal with their own burps, if you can survive that long...

Guess it's reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one! I do feed him lying down so maybe i should feed him sitting up....just it seems soooo hard at night to sit!

Thanks anyway. Waiting for the day he can burp on his own:)

I used to have to keep DD1 upright for about 10mina after her feeds or she'd get all figity, someone told me it could be silent reflux but no idea if that's true?

try changing shoulders and tilting him slightly to one side to try and move the wind a bit or do the sitting forward winding position. I find the hardest bit is forcing myself to sit up in the first place, once I am there I can deal with LO ok Smile

DD 4 weeks just burped like a truck driver as I read this - all on her own too!!! Counting the days till she can do this all the time
