Breastfeeding bill - unlikely to pass?

Sounds good to me, but read in the paper yesterday it was unlikely to be passed - anyone know why?

And what do you think?

The NCT sent me an e-mail saying something like it was a 10 minute rule bill. Didn't read it properly but guess they only have 10 minutes to discuss it and that won't be long enough to make a decision???

cos theres only so much legislation that gets passed without debate so they get 10 mins to debate and thats it. I guess the paper thought it contentious so people would vote no rather than yes instinctively?

Why is the law only proposing to protect the public breast and bottle feeding of children under 2 years of age? Ok, I guess that after that age most people probably wouldn't need to BF in public, but why do they need to put an age limit on it? To me that is sending out the message that it's wrong to BF past 2. Everyone has different opinions about how long you should BF for so where do you draw the line? I'd like to see someone try and stop me BF in public anyway..

Why won't it pass?? I don't understand. They passed a similar law up here (Scotland) without any problems.

It's the same with banning smoking in public places - they can do it in Scotland but f**! it up south of the border..

I am really het up about this. It just seems so simple to me. We want breastfeeding rates up, we don't want women treated like lepers by ignorant arseholes when they dare to feed their children in public...?? YES.

So why is it contentious? Pass the fucking law.

The paper was Metro - I'm a cheapskate and read it on the way to work. No mention of why it was unlikely to pass, but guess it's because there are Important Top Level Secret Scary Political Things to discuss instead.

Plus a lot of MPs hear "breastfeeding" and get all pop-eyed and red-faced with indignation that these brazen hussies are daring to flaunt themselves in public.

I think they only think of breastfeeding as pictures of women in African countries who are bare-breasted and have toddlers slung round their hips feeding. Cos of course that'll be a common sight in shopping malls nationwide if they passed this bill.

As I said fucking ignorant arseholes.
