Woke in a soaking wet bed again this morning, why am I leaking so much?

dd3 doesn't seem to have changed her feeding pattern but I'm leaking constantly at the moment. When she's feeding the other side can go through a couple of breast pads. I feel the let down regularly through the day even when not due a feed.

Can it be linked to PMT? Im feeling v hormonal at the moment, craving chocolate , sex, very up & down mood wise. Ive not had a period since Jan so no idea if I'm due or not.

I need some tips so I'm not going round in soaking wet clothes all day again

No tips sorry, although some people find sleeping on a folded towel helps to keep the bed a bit drier.

"When she's feeding the other side can go through a couple of breast pads.", just wanted to say, have you thought of collecting this milk and using it for a top up instead of just using the pads? One of my friends used Breast Shells for this. She got 4oz off during the day and used this for a top up feed after the 7pm feed.

HarrietJones · 13/05/2011 16:59

Don't do top up feeds. She doesn't take a bottle and I've a freezer full from earlier on when we were trying them.

Think I need to offer myself as a wet nurse.

how old is she? it should calm down (eventually!)

i used to sleep on a couple of towels which helped a bit

JiltedJohnsJulie · 13/05/2011 17:07

Could you donate the milk instead?

HarrietJones · 13/05/2011 17:46

7 months.
I'm not allowed to donate( blood transfusion after dd2 was born) , would love to :(

Is she on solids? Could she have started taking a bit less but you haven't noticed? Your supply will calm down. For nights have you got a night time nursing bra? Or a crop top - anything that can hold pads? I found life was so much easier when I got a night bra.

HarrietJones · 14/05/2011 19:02

I wear a bra all the time. Wearing 2-3 pads last night.

She's not taking noticibly less but she did ask for food rather than milk yesterday ( fruit followed by milk rather than the other way round). We are BLW & not a lot gets digested yet.

I sympathise, it took me about 7 months to stop soaking the bed and a lot longer before the other side stayed dry during a feed. I was just making SO MUCH milk. But it did eventually abate and it will for you too, hopefully!

Kind of made me realise how long (physiologically speaking) humans are 'supposed' to feed their young for, though, as by the time my body was finally getting the hang of it most women who bf are winding it down and stopping...

HarrietJones · 14/05/2011 20:05

Mine calmed at about 4 months though, it's only been like this again for 4-5 days. That's why I wondered about a hormonal link

No advice to offer except to say switch to Lansinoh breast pads....if you're already using them then Shock you really are leaking a lot of milk.

HarrietJones · 14/05/2011 20:43

They've been amongst my stash in the past but they don't sell them in my town.

With DS I hardly ever leaked so it has been a real surprise with DD - she is 7.5mo and I have only just stopped leaking at every feed and randomly during the day in the past fortnight (don't know whether this is linked but the leaking stopped at the same time I got my first period since her birth!) I still leak during night feeds. So you're not alone. It is a bit miserable isn't it?

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/05/2011 21:08

Sympathy - I leaked dreadfully until about 10 months and even then sometimes after - lansinoh pads definitely the best for me.

And when they started feeding less - well my boobs initially went into overdrive before settling down.

CluckyKate · 14/05/2011 21:34

You can get them online - eBay, Boots, etc.

Lots of sympathy from me too...I leaked with DD and again am leaking/experiencing spontaneous let-down with DS. MrCluck went out and bought some Boots own-label pads and I'm having to change them on both sides at every feed. Lansinoh ones last all day.

Thanks

Looks like it may be a side affect of my meds. Read the leaflet yesterday & it mentions milk production in women who aren't pg/ bf so may have over stimulated me.

Talked to pharmacist this am who said see Dr today

ahhh what medication are you on? that could well be it

HarrietJones · 16/05/2011 11:47

They are ADs can't remember the name. Woke up this SM feeling ropey & getting worried about mastitis, it's like that first day of milk coming in and I've just fed!
