Giving formula from doody cup/ other types of sippy cup- sterilise?

hi there,

My dd is 5 1/2 months old and had a tooth coming through. I had been ebf but am at the end of my tether as she keeps biting me! Hurts so much I need a back up plan..

She refuses to drink much (only about 1/2 oz) when offered expressed milk in a bottle and I am finding it really hard to express anything anymore unless I set my alarm for 5 am to do before dd wakes. So I want to give formula in a sippy cup. However, most seem to say don't sterilise and I can't see how I can wash the tiny holes properly. Can you sterilise doidy cups?

Any advice?

you don't really need to sterilise either sippy cups or doidy cups. A good wash in hot soapy water is more than sufficient.

The advice to sterilise everything relies on the premise that parents wont wash the bottles etc. properly. Sterilising is the last line of defence against tummy bugs caused by left over milk residue on the bottles. If the cups/bottles are given a good wash in hot soapy water and left to air dry on a clean surface there is no real need to sterilise.

That said, yes i think that doidy cups can be sterilised.

Ok.... Well I have ordered a doidy cup.... But any ideas how to suitably clean the little holes in sippy cup if I dont need to sterilise?

Thanks

most sippy cups come completely apart to allow for washing. We have every sippy cup ever made a selection of sippy cups and the drinking valve in all of them comes apart to allow for washing.

You can use a teat brush to get right in to the nooks and crannies.
