Tomorrow is his birthday and we both agree that big boys who are three don't need milkies to sleep.

But he is still my baby, just shhh don't tell him that.

Ahh congrats! I hope the transition goes smoothly for you both :)

Well done on 3 yrs! He's a very lucky kid getting such a fab start in life.

Hope his birthday is fun. Smile

I have a lump in my throat and a tear coming to my eye after reading your post Smile

Even though I often say I can't wait for my DS 7mo to start reducing his BF's and have not found BF that easy a ride I obviously feel more attached to the expereince than I realised.

Thank you for making me reflect on this Smile

Thanks all.

I hope it goes smoothly too!

We've had our ups and downs, but I do love that last little snuggle of the day. How do they get so big so fast?!

Oh hippos well done you and DS for keeping bf for so long.
It sounds like you're both being very positive about stopping but I'm sure it will still be hard for you.

My DD is one on Friday and I always said I would feed until she was one, but so don't feel like stopping yet. It would be nice to keep going till we both agree to stop (though I have a thread at the mo about her teeth harming me so maybe our bf relationship will be cut short!)

ZhenXiang · 27/04/2011 22:19

Just gave up a week ago, went smoothly only two nights of tears. DD is 22 months, have managed quite well until today when I thought how nice it would be to feed her so cuddled her close as she had her milk. Not quite the same, but on the plus side I am getting a full nights sleep now.

HipposGoBeserk · 30/04/2011 18:51

Thought I'd update on how it is going.

We've had no tears. Just as well because I'd be sure to crumble and feed him!

He is a bit lost at bedtime and has been taking a while to settle. Not surprising really, he's fed to sleep every night of his life and this is a massive change for him. He appears downstairs looking as though he meant to do something but can't quite remember what...

Obviously we've been very soft about letting him stay up a bit or have one more story or a snack etc.

Tonight he did have a cuddle to sleep, but I think as much as anything he just wanted a cuddle and was so tired he fell asleep. The last few nights he has fallen asleep happily in his bed by himself.

I am so, so pleased it has ended like this. I am also a bit gobsmacked that he ever stopped! He was such a milk monster.

He asked me earlier, "Mummy, are you pwoud of me?" Grin

That's so sweet. Well done Hippos DS.

Ah bless you both, I didn't feed the boys for as long as you have (well done you!!) but the day I stopped feeding ds2 I cried lots, I knew I would never do it again - no more babies allowed by DH Sad
I bet you are very proud of him and that your DH is proud of both of you!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 30/04/2011 21:37

awwww Am thinking about weaning dd3 (23mnths) but she does't seem keen, I feed morning and evening atm. I have tried dropping evening feeds but have only managed it once.

This is the longest I've ever fed but she doesn't seem ready yet, but my bras can't take anymore and I refuse to buy new feeding bras arrrggghhh!

(still it is a lovely snugglely feeling, and she is my last... maybe back in a few months)
