Breastfeeding and the return of AF

Hi, DS is 8m, still being BF. I had an almost AF when he was 6m (cramps, slight bit of brown gunk) then just before 7m a proper AF (a whole week of heavy bleeding) but despite getting AF signs this time about a week or so ago, there is nothing.

Is it normal that it is irregular for a while? Confused

My ds is 8m too and bf, I have had no sign of periods returning although they were eratic before, is this normal too? Sorry SupersonicDave for hijacking but thought we have the same questions so hoping you didn't mind :-)

LakeFlyPie · 27/04/2011 11:27

I think there's a broad spectrum of 'normality' and it varies from person to person.

My periods returned at 6 months with DC1 and 5 months DC2 (both EBF).

samsmother my DD is 12 mo and still no sign of AF for me. I have had cramping a few times and thought she was about to make an appearance, but its always come to nothing.

Ooh SupersonicDave I'm with celadon on the 'obvious question' line of thinking... Maybe wait a week or so and if nothing has appeared, might be time to POAS???

BarbaraBar · 27/04/2011 13:15

My periods came back when ds1 was 8 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. Shock

I have a one year gap between ds1 and ds2... Blush

flowerfairy · 27/04/2011 13:43

My AF returned this morning dd is 9weeks today. With ds they returned about the same sort of time both ebf. Both good sleepers which apparently is something to do with it. So i suppose i can't have it both ways!

EauRouge · 27/04/2011 13:48

I got mine back at 9 weeks with DD1 despite EBF, co-sleeping and all that jazz.

I got it back at 7 weeks with DD2 and I'm chuffing tandem feeding. So annoyed. [cangry]

Ooh, royal smileys!

Anyway, is there a possibility you might be pregnant, OP?

ellabella2 · 27/04/2011 14:07

My DS is 7mo and last month I had a 24 hour AF and this month a 48 hour AF, so sort of returned Hmm I am still BF.

SupersonicDave · 27/04/2011 17:07

Thank you for your replies.

As for the million pound question - i fecking hope not! We use condoms and are now very careful (how we got DC1!) and haven't noticed that any had split. Think i will give it another week and then do a test if nothing, just to set my mind at rest.

If i am, then DH is not coming near me again unless he has the snip!

Hello dave :)

Ds just turned 8 months and I just finished my first period which was very light and not at all the painful messy period I was dreading. I'm sure you're fine and it will catch up with you vey soon. In the meantime enjoy!

SupersonicDave · 28/04/2011 08:48

Hey Vix [csmile]

My first was just brown goo, the second was 8 days, 5 of which were very heavy.

I worked it out, that if i go with 28days cycle length (although i am usually 26days) that i was due on 2wks ago so perhaps a test today would be a good idea.

Phew!!

vix206 · 28/04/2011 12:29

SupersonicDave, mine lasted 6 days and was a proper period, just a lot lighter than I had expected. Maybe I was just comparing it to the 2 lies of blood I lost at childbirth....anything would be light in comparison to that LOL

BarbaraBar · 28/04/2011 13:18

phew!
