I have been breastfeeding my ds for almost 10 months now although he is feeding much much less now. My periods returned on 4th December and have been clockwork every 30 days since.

This month I was due on 9th Apr (Saturday just gone) and still haven't come on making me 5 days late.

We are not TTC and use contraception but on Monday night I got a positive Tesco digi test, followed an hour later by a negative Tesco digi test. Followed by a ClearBlue digi test (neg) 90mins later, and another neg CB digi 3 hours after that. (Tuesday morning)

Still with me?

Well, later on Tuesday I did 2 more tests, and both came up with a positive cross but they were so faint they were almost imaginary and they took about 6-7 minutes to come up.. Thought maybe they could be evap lines.

Yesterday I did more tests, more confusing results. Negative Tesco digi test, and 1 positive and 1 negative 'line' tests.

Negative test this morning.

So my questions are:

  1. Is it possible that my periods could randomly become irregular whilst still breastfeeding, even after settling into a cycle.

  2. Could I be pregnant and perhaps testing very early? (with both positive and negative tests I'm confused)

Confused

Thanks!

I think you could be pregnant - it's possible to get false negatives but not false positives with pregnancy tests, if the hormone is there then it's there.

I'd give it a few more days and try again.

But wouldn't I be getting more positive tests if I were (don't get me wrong I'd be delighted although not planned).

I have a few more tests upstairs so will test every couple of days and see what happens, thanks!

If it's very early it'll be a bit hit and miss whether the tests pick it up though.

Yeah thats true, wish I just knew one way or the other!

Time will tell I guess :)

It is possible to get false positive -see here.

Hope the outcome in the end is what you want Smile

Thanks for the link :)

I'm not on any medications or anything and it can't have been an evaporation line as it was a digital test and just said pregnant.

I guess chemical pregnancy is possible but I'd have expected AF to have arrived if that was the case. Confused

I will definitely be glad to know one way or the other, gonna give it a week or so then book a Dr's appointment to see whats going on. If the tests are still negative then, then it's highly unlikely that I'm pregnant. Therefore something else may be causing my late period...:(

Stuff it, I'm off for a Brew

Good old AF caught up with me :)

I'm so relieved, was starting to think something was very wrong with me, but nope.....just a freaky cycle :).

Thank you ladies for your help tho! xx

I'd rethink your contraception as a positive test means you were pregnany, if only briefly.

CherryPie3 · 16/04/2011 15:59

Thank you japhrimel, I would have been thrilled to be pregnant, actually quite sad that I'm not (anymore?).

I'm gathering courage to actually ask dh to start ttc baby #4 :)
