8 week old baby coughing after feeds?

Hi, for the past week my 8 week old ds has been coughing after feeds (EBF). He is then extremely uncomfortable and squirms as though he wants more but doesn't want the breast. Being upright and ferocious dummy sucking helps and he normally stops crying after 5-10 mins or so.

He is gaining weight and is happy and content the rest of the time, but the coughing is quite scary to hear.

My initial thoughts are that this could be mild reflux coupled with me having a fast letdown. Anyone else got any thoughts? Should I see doc about the coughing or is this something they will tell me he will grow out of?

it does sound like reflux but I'd say go to your GP, any concerns about a little baby is not wasting their time.

Have you thought about feeding 'laid back' style? This can help with the fast let down as the baby has the ability to pull back their head if the flow is too fast and gravity helps with the pressure.

Kellymom has some good info on dealing with fast let down here.

Fast let down could exacerbate reflux symptoms so working through some of the techniques might lessen the reflux type problems too.

Hi thanks- I've been feeding lying back when I can, he's still coughing but not crying as much. Will make a docs appt to be on the safe side
