2mth old with lazy latch and large bruise on nipple - Help!

Please help. Exclusively breast feeding ds2 of 8 wks who is putting on 1/2 lb a week and feeding 11-13 times a day. His latch has become so lazy he is only just taking the nipple in his mouth and not the areola and a large bruise has formed that is sore all the time not just feeding. That is my good side! On my left the nipple is inverted and so sucking it out is extra hard work and that is a different kind of pain. We usually use the rugby ball hold for that but he is nearly 13lbs now and that won't last much longer. Any advice please? The pain is making me miserable and I feel like a rubbish Mum to my 5 and 3 yr old who are with me all the time. I am in the States btw.

Sounds like you need someone to check the latch. Have no idea who might be able to help you as you're in the States, but bumping for you...

Yes you need someone to watch you feeding and advise. here is the website for La Leche in the States, you can check for your local meetings.

Have you tried feeding lying down - atleast you don't have to hold them that way!

Thank you for your advice. Would be a bit worried about feeding lying down with the other two in the house. They are playing up quite a lot with the new baby. Will try at night though.
