Hi!

Let me just start by saying that I have had a HORRIBLE day with my 7 week old DS, he has been twisty, fussing at the breast, screaming every time he has a poo etc etc.

After every feed (which he is fussing throughout, on and off the breast) he pulls off and doesnt seem satisfied (i.e. no "milk coma" like their ususally is Grin). He then starts sucking his hands and whinging again about 10 minutes later.

Does this sound like he is having a fussy day, with possibly some trapped wind issues? or should I consider offering a formula feed to see if this settles him?

Thanks for any advice, I am at the end of my tether!

Fussy day! Could be a growth spurt, wind, the onset of a cold, the first teething pains...

The milk coma/drunk baby thing seems to lessen as thet get older anyway.

Sounds like a fussy day... mine had plenty of those!

Lots of babies go through this fussy period and it's unlikely to be due to a lack of milk. If he is suddenly in need of more your supply will increase in response and he'll be fine in a day or so.

It could be any number of other things so just try to plough on through it, thinking about whether you have changed anything like your deodourant, and don't give him formula unless you have decided that you are moving on from bfing and are happy with that.

Fussy day! My DS is 7 weeks too, and every day seems fussy right now Grin

Could be the 6 week growth spurt. Feed as much as you can. Introducing formula now could just cause more problems as it will mean your supply doesnt increase to match his needs and so you can start a vicious circle.

Preserver with the bf'ing. Your son is very young and you'll have good days and bad. Can take ages to settle.

Could be wind, could be fast let down or greedy baby wanting a faster flow.

The NCT or La Leche League give great advice.

What everyone else said - most likely to be a growth spurt or fussy day. DS's 6 week growth spurt started bang on 6 weeks and lasted till 7.5 weeks.

As japhrimel said, the milk coma does stop at some point anyway. :(
